Identity Thieves Targets AOL Subscribers
Los Angeles, CA – Last Thursday, AOL announced the arrest of one of its software designers for the theft of the database of its 92 million subscribers. This list was sold to an owner of an online gambling business and other spammers.
The Federal Trade Commission reports that nearly one in eight U.S. adults became victims to identity theft in the past five years. In the year 2002, identity theft cost consumers $5 billion in out-of-pocket expenses to individuals.
